      STEAM PUNKS——華頓特色課,讓科學與藝術走進生活

      你有沒有想過把自己的設計制作成模型?

      別再只是想想而已,

      來STEAM課,

      把想法付諸實踐吧!

      前言

      在華頓,我們開設了一門與國際接軌的特色課程——STEAM課,目前初中、高中學生都會學習這個課程。

      Taicang Walton Foreign Language School recently started It’s fledgling Middle School STEAM program! The institute currently offers this program at the middle-school. 

      STEAM是科學、技術、工程、建筑與藝術設計等多門學科碰撞組合而成的課程。我們帶領學生通過動手實驗去發現生活中的科學現象,旨在拉近學生與科學的距離,讓科學不再“無形”。

      STEAM is a rich combination of different sciences and arts subjects that is more experimental in nature and is intended to give students an experience of tangible scientific concepts happening in real time.

      Science 科學

      “生命是如此奇妙,原來它們都是由一個個微小但必不可少的細胞組成的?!?七年級的學生們在課上如此感嘆道。最近他們正沉浸在化學與生物學的世界里,努力探索細胞結構、光合作用以及發酵等科學概念。

      Taught in Grade 7, students are immersed in the world of Biology and Chemistry as they discover that everything is made of small yet essential particles. Recently, our little STEAM Punks explored the concept of photosynthesis, fermentation, and cell structure!

      二氧化碳是發酵的副產品,應用這些知識, 學生們用酵母和糖溶液為氣球充氣。

      CO2 is a by-product of fermentation, applying that knowledge; the students used yeast and sugar solutions to inflate balloons. 

      Technology技術

      為了培養學生的創造力,我們的八年級正在學習3D建模和打印,嘗試應用這項新技術,感受科技的力量。

       In this course, our students practiced basic 3D modeling. Students are encouraged to tap into their creativities and think of new ways to apply this relatively new technology throughout their classes. 


      從構思到建模,再到打印制作,通過3D打印機,學生們可以看著自己的設計慢慢呈現在眼前。

      From basic 3D solid shapes to more complicated composite designs, students are able to see designs come to life through our on-campus 3D printers. 


      Engineering工程&Architecture建筑設計

      很多人認為工程和建筑設計是對立的,但實際上,兩者是互補的。我們十年級的學生正在STEAM課上學習把兩者結合起來。

      Engineering and Architecture are commonly thought of as opposites but in reality, both are complements. Here at Walton, our Grade 10 students get a hands-on experience with architectural design as well as design technology.


      目前,學生們正在學習繪制等距視圖——一種將工程與建筑設計結合起來的繪圖技術。學生可以繪制2D或者3D圖紙,這是接觸復雜設計的第一步。

      Now,our Senior STEAM Punks recently learned how to project drawings in isometric views in traditional drafting media. Our students are allowed to draft in 2D to present in 3D. This is the first step before designing complicated designs.

      Ralph Joseph Ilano


      Ralph Joseph Ilano是太倉華頓外國語學校國際部的IBDP物理老師,同時也是STEAM課程的導師。他畢業于馬普托大學土木工程學院,在結構工程設計、物理及工程教學方面經驗豐富。

      Ralph is the IB DP Physics teacher in Walton’s International department as well as the STEAM Curriculum leader. Ralph majored in Civil Engineering at the top Engineering school of the Philippines, Mapúa University. He is experienced in structural engineering and design as well as pedagogy in Physics and Engineering.
